This live recording of South Pacific preserves the performances of Reba McEntire, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Alec Baldwin, Lillias White, Alexander Gemignani and others from Carnegie Hall’s one-night-only staged concert of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific, presented on June 9, 2005.

Featuring Lauren Kennedy, Philip Quast, Sheila Francisco, Nick Holder and Elaine Tan, the recording of the National Theatre’s 2002 Trevor Nunn production was released on First Night Records. Stephen Brooker served as musical director.

This 1996 studio cast album, the first “complete” recording of the show’s score, was recorded at Abbey Studios in London for TER Records. The cast includes Paige O’Hara, who played the lead in an Australian production, and Justino Diaz, who played Emile de Becque for the New York City Opera.

London’s first revival, produced by Ronnie Lee and directed by Rodger Redfarn in 1988, ran just shy of a year at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London, starring Gemma Craven and Emile Belcourt. The orchestra and cast were conducted by the production’s musical director, Reginald Burston, with Robert Russell Bennett’s original orchestrations.

The original Broadway cast of South Pacific gathered in Columbia Record’s famous 30th Street Studio to record the original cast album on April 18 and 19, 1949.
