2005 Carnegie Hall Concert

Music by Richard Rodgers | Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II | Book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan | Concert Adaptation by David Ives | Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Tales of the South Pacific by James Michener

This landmark, one-night-only concert version of South Pacific was presented at Carnegie Hall on June 9, 2005. Country music star Reba McEntire (who lit up Broadway when she followed Bernadette Peters in Annie Get Your Gun) led an impressive cast as Ensign Nellie Forbush, with Brian Stokes Mitchell as Emile de Becque and Alec Baldwin in the role of Luther Billis. PBS captured the performance for their Great Performances series. Featuring the Orchestra of St. Lukes conducted by Paul Gemignani, direction by Walter Bobbie, choreography by Casey Nicholaw and a streamlined libretto tailored for the concert stage by David Ives, the production also featured Lillias White, Jason Danieley, Dylan Baker and Alexander Gemignani.
