2000 West End Revival

Rodgers & HammersteinThe King and I

The Australian/Broadway production returned to the London stage at the London Palladium, the same theatre where Yul Brynner performed years before and the Lincoln Center Theater production would play several years later. This highly anticipated West End production, which opened on May 3, 2000, starred Elaine Paige as Anna and Jason Scott Lee as the King, with Taewon Yi Kim returning as Lady Thiang. “Shall we dance? Most certainly. The King and I waltzed back to the West End in triumph last night,” reported The Daily Mirror, while The Daily Express hailed it simply as an “unstoppable smash.” The UK return of The King and I reported an astounding £8 million in advanced ticket sales, and continued performances through January 5, 2002.
