2015 Broadway Revival
On April 16, 2015, The King and I made a triumphant return to Broadway at Lincoln Center Theater’s Vivian Beaumont Theatre in a Bartlett Sher production hailed as “resplendent” by The New York Times. Starring Kelli O’Hara, who won a Tony for her portrayal of Anna Leonowens, and Ken Watanabe in his American stage debut as the King, this Award-winning revival also featured Ashley Park as Tuptim and Ruthie Ann Miles in a Tony Award-winning turn as Lady Thiang. After winning five out of nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical, along with countless other accolades, The King and I played 499 performances, closing on June 26, 2016 with a North American tour already in place. During the show’s run, Marin Mazzie and Daniel Dae Kim, among others, stepped into the leading roles.
On April 19 and 20, 2015, the Lincoln Center Broadway Cast of The King and I entered the DiMenna Center for Classical Music to record their cast album under the musical direction of Ted Sperling. The 18-track album was released by Decca Broadway Records on June 9, 2015 and featured liner notes by The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization’s Ted Chapin.
