1940 Motion Picture
On July 18, 1940, Universal Pictures released the film adaptation of Rodgers & Hart’s The Boys from Syracuse, premiering the film in Syracuse, New York. Directed by A. Edward Sutherland, the movie starred Allan Jones, Martha Raye, Joe Penner, Rosemary Lane and Irene Hervey. Nominated for two Academy Awards, the picture featured six Rodgers & Hart tunes: four hits from the Broadway score plus “Who Are You” and “The Greeks Had No Word for It.”
