1938 Original Broadway Production

Music by Richard Rodgers | Lyrics by Lorenz Hart | Book by George Abbott

Based on William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, Rodgers & Hart’s The Boys from Syracuse premiered on Broadway at the Alvin Theatre on November 23, 1938. Directed by George Abbott, the production featured Eddie Albert, Ronald Graham, Teddy Hart, Jimmy Savo, Muriel Angelus and Marcy Westcott. The highly anticipated show from the darlings of Broadway went on to run 235 performances, closing on June 10, 1939. Farcical and fast-paced, the hit musical introduced several songs now considered part of the Great American Songbook, including “Falling in Love with Love,” “Sing for Your Supper” and “This Can’t Be Love.”
